Orchard Park of Kyle Assisted Living and Memory Care, Meridian Senior
Living, and Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital of Kyle is pleased to sponsor a half day workshop with Naomi Feil, creator and developer of the Validation Method at no cost.
The Validation Method helps professionals and lay people communicate better with elderly who have some forms of dementia. Naomi Feil, M.S., A.C.S.W. created and developed Validation from 1963 to 1980. It has further developed into one of most effective psycho-geriatric tools used all over the world today. Feil was the first person to use a client-centered approach with Alzheimer patients, using the phrase ‘step into their shoes and see through their eyes’. She urged nursing home staff to stop pushing their reality and instead to validate the feelings and recognize the deep human needs that were being expressed.
Now, the Validation Training Institute has 20 training centers in Japan, Europe and the United States with over 340 certified Teachers using authorized curricula to train others. The Validation Method increases both verbal and non-verbal communication and lessens ‘difficult’ behavior because the need behind those behaviors is recognized and validated.
Still going strong at age 82, she offers her 1⁄2 day and full day workshops in Europe, Asia and North America.
Those interested in the workshop should call the community at (512) 920-6400 or send an email to orchardparkfis@gmail.com.
